  • Expertise

Drawing on more than four decades of experience, Allan is uniquely equipped to assess complex legal situations, think outside the box, and zero in on an effective, forward-thinking solution. Both tenacious and compassionate, Allan leaves no stone unturned in his efforts to solve client problems and advocates for those unfairly enmeshed in shareholder disputes, bankruptcy or insolvency matters.

Allan founded LZW with partners Myles Waxman and William Zener in 1976 and continues to be actively practicing law on a full time basis. He is sought after for his commercial law expertise in restructurings, partnership and shareholder disputes, mergers and acquisitions by his clients which include several chartered banks as well as non-bank commercial lenders, licensed Trustees in Bankruptcy, and Receivers. He has extensive knowledge in commercial secured transactions and bankruptcy and insolvency-related matters, including representing institutional lenders for the recovery of impaired loans as well as assisting debtors in restructuring their banking relationships.

Renowned as an industry leader and nurturer of talent, Allan shares his expertise as a lecturer with a focus on the Personal Property Security Act, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act, and commercial loan restructurings and realizations. He has also made it a personal and firm priority to mentor law students throughout their articling period and during their initial years of practice. In fact, most of the solicitors currently practicing at LZW joined the firm during their student days and sharpened their legal expertise under Allan’s guidance.

When not practising, lecturing or mentoring, Allan is a committed husband, father and grandfather who fills his free time with theatre, golf and family time at the cottage.
